For Flavel and Delgardo, the Scottish skipper Kevin Wallace's game was a challenge throughout final.

"The opposition skip Kevin is a class act," Flavel told bowls.com.au.

"When we had stuff there he got it. You don't mind getting out-bowled when it's that good.

"The first emotion was a bit disappointed not to get the gold, but you get this around your neck (silver medal) and it's pure joy. Pride and a sense of accomplishment for all the hard work we've put in."

Now fast friends, Flavel said the bonds between he and Delgado would be lasting.

"It's the start of a friendship, we're friends forever now, we're going to be bonded through this," he said.

The duo were in control at 4-2 on Tuesday as they attempted to emulate Ellen Ryan's historic Commonwealth Games gold 24 hours earlier at Leamington Spa's picturesque Victoria Park.

But Scotland produced two, three and two-shot ends in succession to jump ahead 10-4 and eventually win 16-7.

Flavel, a truss designer and a timber estimator, began his bowling career in 1994.

This year he was the overall team/para team champion at the 2022 Trans Tasman and in the past has won on the national stage.

He has had 58 international appearances and 168 caps.
