Savoy hit back with a great vengeance in last Sunday's Sports Precinct round 13 SAASL Division 2 league game against Modbury SC in a runaway second half of soccer.
The Green and Whites scored seven goals without reply and huge morale boosting win for the Vincent DeGioia coached outfit and a strong reply to the previous week's unexpected defeat.
Savoy smacked the visiting Modbury team and the league's top scorer Jack Scoot entertained himself to four goals in a one way and extraordinary affair in Sunday's home encounter and on an afternoon that second ladder team Southern Knights and Savoy's next opponent lost 0-1 to West Beach resulting in the locals regaining its five-point lead on the ladder.
However while Savoy won as it liked in the second half, the opening period was quite the opposite when both teams never looked like scoring with both defences being on top with coach DeGioia reporting that Modbury SC played very good soccer stopping the Savoy potential goal scorers and moulded the contest to its liking.
But the second period was all too different with the Green and Whites offensive runners ran havoc in attack and it was Egide Sabamana that broke the stranglehold scoring at the 60th minute and open the gates for the home team.
The visitors suffered a set back when it had a player sent off but the quality of attack strongly favoured Savoy as it went from strength to strength.
Jack Scoot doubled Savoy lead at the 64th before Johnny Librino notched a 3rd goal before scoring again with a powerful freekick giving the locals a quick 4-0 score line and one that was to continue further as Scoot went on a rampant goalkicking venture.
The tall strong marksman bagged three goals in 15 minutes and his 4th with Savoy scoring seven times in a thirty-minute period against the 4th ranked and respected Adelaide opponent in what was a spectacular afternoon of repetitive one-sided goal scoring.
The best players went to Jack Scoot, the consistent Anthony D'Agostino, Johnny Librino and again to Tate Brook while earlier in the afternoon Savoy and Modbury FC drew 1-1 with Tyson Webber finding the net for Savoy.
SAVOY AFTER REPEAT KNIGHTS RESULT
Top two SAASL Division 2 teams Savoy and Southern Knights take each other on this Sunday afternoon at O'Sullivan Beach Sports and Community Assoc sports venue after the two leading Division 2 candidates experienced alternate results last weekend with Savoy romping home and
the Southern Knights losing narrowly to West Beach.
Vincent DeGioia has recovered some lost ladder points after the previous round of results with the Green and Whites again having a telling 5 points lead on the league ladder with five fixtures left this season albeit still regard the Knights a big danger especially at home.
Contrasting results last Sunday by the two teams mean little and both are targeting the top two spots on the Division 2 league ladder and promotion although still with a handful of games left.
However after Savoy defeated Modbury FC 7-0 on Saturday the Knights lost 0-1 to West Beach and the Green and Whites did win 8-1 against the Knights back in round 5 at the Sports Precinct while the present ladder shows 3rd placed Unley United now just one point in arrears of the Knights and a case that could lift it against Savoy.
Savoy's attacking soccer and scoring arsenal went on show last Sunday after a short lean spell and should the local SAASL outfit perform similarly it can make it back to back wins.
