
The Port Pirie Hospital is set to receive a major $12 million emergency department upgrade, the State Government announced today as part of its budget.
The new Labor Government's first budget detailed a $2.4 billion investment in health, in what the government is says is the biggest investment in health in South Australia's history.

Treasurer Stephen Mullighan said the government had a clear agenda to make health a priority of the budget.
"This budget will deliver more beds and employ more ambos, doctors and nurses to boost capacity across the health network and relieve pressure on hospitals and emergency departments," he said.
Minister for health and welling Chris Picton said the budget was providing frontline health workers with what they needed to "do their job properly and safely through a historic investment into services, staffing and infrastructure".
"Our commitment to reduce ambulance response times, provide more capacity to treat more patients and take pressure off hospitals and EDs will deliver a health service the South Australian public expects and deserves."
