The new Bluff Lookout in Wirrabara Forest has exceeded visitor number expectations, according to District Council of Mount Remarkable.

Council has been monitoring traffic to the new site since it opened in September last year and recorded over 3,000 vehicles travelling to the The Bluff.

"This equates to an average of 40 vehicles per day, and Sundays recording the highest average," Council said in a statement.

Mayor Phillip Heaslip lauded the numbers, saying it showed there was a need for The Bluff.

"These are great numbers, and if we assume at least two people per vehicle, then these numbers can easily be doubled for an actual person count," he said.

"It is real data like this that illustrates there was a need for The Bluff, and is very pleasing that we have had so many people visit not just The Bluff Lookout, but also visit our region."

Council will continue to monitor vehicle numbers, and Mr Heaslip said he is really looking forward to what the numbers show once the Remarkable Southern Flinders Project is completed.

"It is projects like this that help a region stay alive, support our businesses, and provide some well needed economic stimulus to the region," he said.
