Australia and Philippines friendship celebrated

This month locals celebrated 75 years of mateship between Australia and Philippines.

Locals gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the who countries in Port Pirie, hosting a dinner for guests at Port Pirie Memorial Oval Sports Precinct to continue to mateship tradition.

Jimmy Pantin who attended the event said it had been a great night.

"The celebration was all about the mutual relationship by exchanging of skills, talents and trade that contributed to the industries, communities, and the economy.," he said.

"Our shared values like "Bayanihan" or "Mateship" started since 1940's and since then the two countries built and established a strong, sustained relationship in terms of business, trade and defence.

"Despite COVID restrictions, the event committee members had still managed to invite some guest speakers and representatives from ministries, industries and community which made this event possible."
