Andrew Wright's football story begins years ago in primary school as a Reception boy who loved kicking the ball around with older students.
On Saturday, that enthusiasm brought him to the peak of his career as the star player for Spencer Gulf League against Whyalla Football League at Memorial Oval.
Wright, 27, won the President's Medal as best-on-ground in the clash which saw SGL win easily.
Also in the team was an old friend, Luke Edwards, who also used to kick the ball around with him in those primary school days at St Thomas More campus in Elizabeth.
"Luke is my best mate and that is why I have come to play for Lions in Port Pirie with him," Wright said.
"Luke and I both played for Gawler Central in the Barossa, Light and Gawler League. My friend joined the Lions previously and it was one of the reasons why I made the shift to join the same club."
"We are both teachers at Airdale Primary School.
"We have a bit of a knack of finding each with the ball on the field."
This is his first year with the Lions, having premierships with Gawler Central in 2014 and 2020 and was runner-up best-and-fairest.
