Three fishermen who were left drifting into open water in the waters of Port Pirie after an engine failure were saved by a fellow fisher on Sunday night.
According to an Metropolitan Fire Service statement, the small boat was reported stranded off the coast of Port Pirie at around 8:30pm on Sunday, April 4.
With no anchor on board the vessel had begun to slowly drift out into open water.
In an unlikely role for the firefighters, the MFS liaised with a local commercial fisherman who went to the rescue and secured their vessel.
"The SES arrived soon after and towed the vessel into shore," said an MFS spokesperson.
