Pirie police called to house after military device was found

Woman finds military device in Risdon Park

Port Pirie police were called to a property in Risdon Park, following reports that a woman had found military ordinance.

Just before 1.30pm on September 30, a woman called police after she discovered a suspected military device in a house shed on Carter Crescent.

Patrols cordoned off the area and closed the road for several hours while waiting for the arrival of specialist Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.

The ADF determined the device as an empty metal container, which previously contained a naval charge before removing it for destruction.

Inert military charges were available in military surplus shops in the 1980s and 1990s.

Port Pirie police would like to thank residents for their patience and recommend anyone finding similar items not to handle them, but rather call the Police Assistance Line on 131444.

Patrols will attend before requesting the attendance of ADF personnel to dispose of the item.
