Golfers 'teed off' at the Port Pirie Golf Club on Saturday for the Men's Nyrstar North Western Golf Tournament that was won by Wayne Forrest.

The 27 hole event was open to A,B,C grade and Veteran amateur golfers and saw perfect weather conditions throughout the day.

About 42 people participated in the open, including golfers from Port Pirie, Port Broughton, Adelaide and other parts of the region have a swing at the club trophy.

Port Pirie Golf Club president Grant Norton said everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

"They all enjoyed it and it was nice weather. The only thing was having to walk the 27 holes and having sore feet at the end of the day," he said.

Mr Norton thanked Nyrstar for its sponsorship and praised volunteers and caterers who helped throughout the day.

Golfer Jim Scaverelli said one of the funnier occurrences on the day was when he hit the wrong ball on hole two and incurred a two shot penalty.

"Overall it was a great day, lots of good golf, great food and lots of laughs and great camaraderie," he said.

"I would certainly recommend any amateur golfer to come and play next year in the event to enjoy a day of golf, great food and lots of laughs after the competition."
