14/6 - Three Port Pirie boys was selected in the states under-14 hockey squad. They were Greg Tomlinson, Anthony Mezzini and Andrew Mannix.

23/6 - Jenny Munn from Warnertown is an entrant in the golden fleece Miss Truchie compeition run with the Miss Australia quest.

27/8 - The junior Colts football team of the year was M. Lauritsen, B. Adams, D. Roads, J. Bonham, R. Ford, G. Taylor, D. Daws, W. Carter, M. Finlay, C. Lawrie, P. Redmand, J. Sciangalepore, S. Challenger, V. Cappelletto, S. Joyce, A. Mayfield, J. Lagoudis, J. Hiedrick, T. Jenke, N. Rafanelli.

1/9 - Pirie West post office closed. It was run by Alan Tomkins owing to lack of customers.

1/9 - Port Pirie women's hockey combined side to compete in the country side was Maureen McCombe, Bev Jacobs, Jackie Bown, Bronwyn Dohnt, Raelene Fradd, Ruth Wise, Sylvia Broekx, Elaine Smart, Kathy Anderson, Virginia Arney, Yvonne Tobin, Sue Lane.

20/9 - Con Saris takes over the Exchange Hotel.

22/9 - Boxers from Allen Tunney gym to compete in a boxing event in the town hall was John Retsas, Rod Farquah, Noel Murulo, Theo Retsas and John O' Connor.

27/9 - The SAPSASA football team was Simon Brown, Shaun Clarke, Scott Fodgen, Garry Vanstone, Dale Laube, Jamie Keane, Peter Grieves, Scott Couzner, Damien Kitschke, Hayden Bentley, Paul Rafanelli, Micheal Lee, Craig Stevens, Mark Aldridge, Mark Miller, Martin Lauritsen, Brian Joyce, Brett Finlay, Colin Ferme, Warren Southam, Scott Kauschke.

29/9 - The smelters picnic Miss Picnic was won by Annette Roberts. The champion baby girl was Paula Peterson and champion boy was Nathan Randall.

9/10 - About 5000 attended the Port Germein and Districts centenary celebrations with visitors from all over Australia.

17/10 - Port Pirie theatre guild staged a basic fairy-tale of "Cinderella". The lead was played by Virginia Ryan as Cinderella.

22/10 - Port Pirie RSL womens auxillory won the R.S.Lee trophy for the fourth time, the most money in the state for the year. The committee was Doria Sylvester, Jean Shepley, Margaret Court, Sandro Close, Edna Jacobs, Margaret Shepley, Dawn Benn, Olive Dale, Roma Wade, Levinia Wade.

24/10 - Port Pirie Football chairman Mr. Harry Madigan receives a merit award from the National Football League.
