Netball academy program to continue

Spencer Netball Netball Academy is part of a state-wide program divided into eight regions with the purposes to decentralise the delivery of developmental and high-performance programs.

Netball SA established the Academy Program throughout South Australia for talent identified players, coaches and umpires.

The Spencer Regional Netball Academy encompasses the Whyalla, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Broken Hill, and Roxby Downs Netball Associations and each year selects 20-60 of the top junior players aged between 14-17 years to participate in the Academy program and Academy Games.

Our next challenge we face due to COVID-19 restrictions for training and the impact on local netball associations with one (Port Pirie Netball Association) in our region not hosting a 2020 season, and the remaining four considering the viability to hosting a 2020 season.

The Netball SA is keen to continue the Academy Program and is developing and supporting our girls throughout the academy both virtually and now with recommencement of training at Level B and in the future during their participation in the 2020 Academy Games held in Adelaide.

We would love the girls to be reported on, regarding the impacts of COVID-19, workarounds, training at home in isolation and now the change to training structures to maintain social distancing.

We will be holding our next training this Sunday, May 31, with the next training Sunday, June 21.

Training will be held for both sessions at the Port Augusta Complex from 9.45am.
