Southern Flinders Players have been inspired by one of the greatest pop groups of all time.

The troupe will stage Mamma Mia! at Keith Michell Theatre tomorrow and Saturday, taking the theme song from Swedish group ABBA as well as many of their hits. Mamma Mia! has long been a dream show for the performers and with production rights recently being released for amateur theatre that dream is becoming reality.

Director Rennae Vincent-Heylen describes it as a special story of nostalgia, endless summers, many relationships of different natures and the ever-human pattern of thinking we know what we want, what we need and who we are only to have it redefined.

It is a romantic, comedic, musical theatre hit set on a Greek island paradise.

The show is inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs including SOS, Take a Chance On Me and Dancing Queen.

The actors will tell story of Sophie Sheridan who is on a mission to discover the identity of her father. Investigations by Sophie result in three men from her mother's past arriving on the island 21 years since their last visit.

Sophie Sheridan is portrayed by Montannah Nicholls. This is Montannah's first production with Southern Flinders Players after moving to Port Pirie with her family just over 12 months ago.

Montannah has been captivated with theatre from a young age and performed all throughout her school years. Playing Sophie and performing Mamma Mia! has been a wish of Montannah's for a very long time and given Montannah and Sophie are both bright, artistic, loving and determined young women the casting seems a perfect fit.

Starring alongside Montannah is Esther Miller. Esther Miller has been cast as the formidable, strong-willed, but ever-caring Donna Sheridan, mother to Sophie.

Donna, grew up in the 1970s and hasn't always taken life too seriously. A member of the band Donna and the Dynamos with her two best friends, Donna enjoyed a carefree youth before becoming a single mother to Sophie.

Donna traded the disco lights and sequins for the mum life on the island where she runs a holiday get-away.

Esther first performed with Southern Flinders Players in 2016 and again last year.

The role of Donna Sheridan is Esther's ground-breaking role as a lead actress.

She says Super Trouper is her favourite song and dance number of the show as it reminds Donna of who she once was and that life although at times can be tough can also be a whole lot of fun when you are surrounded by people you love and who love you.

Southern Flinders Players are performing Mamma Mia! for three shows only on February 21 and 22.

A show about the celebration of love, laughter, family and friends, this is not to be missed. Tickets can be bought online from Country Arts or at the Festival Centre Box Office.

While the troupe is Port Pirie-based, it has a regional flavour with members travelling from Port Germein, Gladstone, Port Augusta, Laura, Crystal Brook and Jamestown to take part.
