For dancer Maria Savant, peace is within reach.

To help her cause, the federal government through Grey MP Rowan Ramsey has provided $8000.

The money will be used to back performance artist and playwright Maria's project, Dance for Peace.

With acclaimed film-maker Kim Mavromatis, she will create a video and include film in her dance and drama productions.

"I am delighted to be given this award through the South Australian Country Arts Trust," she said.

"It will enable me to develop my skills as a storyteller through film.

"My short film will then be included in my new stage show, Songs for My Beloved, and submitted to international short film festivals around the world. I am making the film to launch the message to the world about dance for peace." She said Port Pirie needed "peace" to overcome chronic drug abuse and poverty.

"There is violence and terror caused by people addicted to 'ice'," she said.

"We are a whole family on this planet together."
