The Pink Up Port Pirie committee suffered a low blow when it discovered pink ribbons it had placed around the city centre, all for breast cancer awareness, had been torn down.

Five of the ribbons placed on palm trees on Florence Street were ripped down and left in garden beds.

The committee's Judy Baldwin was heartbroken by the discovery.

"My heart just sank when I saw the bows were missing," she said.

"Why would someone want to rip the bows off?"

The ribbons had been put up almost a fortnight ago by committee member Ros Mayfield and her husband, Greg.

This is the second year the group has added a splash of pink around the city.

"They looked amazing when they were put up," Judy said.
