Students took a musical journey around the world at the Festival of Music performance held at the Northern Festival Centre last Wednesday night.

Schools from across the city and further afield joined forces for the mammoth show which involved almost 150 students.

This year's performance had a theme of 'Dear Pen-pal' and featured six commissioned works written by Robyn Habel as well as other songs.

It mirrored the same structure which was undertaken in schools in Adelaide.

Risdon Park Primary School teacher Paige Bairstow said the performance was popular every year.

She said for many of the students the show was a highlight of their school year.

"It's an outlet for some of the kids. They feel like they are part of something really big," she said.

"It's a really good night."

Indra Benson served as conductor for the show which involves students from Year 5 to 7.

Rehearsals for the performance started in term two.
