Church blooms with displays at show

The Lighthouse Church was blooming with floral displays at the annual flower show and fete.

This year's showcase had a theme of country gardens and saw a variety of entries from across the community.

One of the display's organisers, Sue Arbon, said while the amount of displays was down slightly on last year, the number of visitors who came to the event had increased.

"People came up with different interpretations," she said of the entries.

"The chatter here has been fantastic.

"The people that have come through, it's amazing."

Entertainment on both days was provided by Cactus Martens, Desma Crew and Madge Vanstone, and Ray Manfield and Mary Bateman.

Joylene Smart took out first prize in individuals while the Girl Guides' creative entry won for youth groups.

The Mid North Education Centre's entry won for schools and the Florence Singers' creative arrangement of fresh produce was the winner for groups.

Judges for this year's flower show were Stewart Craker, Margaret Harvey and Renee Brentson.

Money raised from the annual display is put towards projects of the Lighthouse Church.
