The shoppers of Coles' Port Pirie supermarket have back the Lions Club of Port Pirie's Liberty swing project to the tune of $1200.

Local store manager Robert Fairman and long-serving staff member Pam Ashman presented the club with the funding on Monday morning.

Money was raised from collection tins at the supermarket's checkouts.

Mr Fairman said they tried to support local groups wherever they could.

"We love to see the money go back to the local community," he said.

Mrs Ashman said the donation was thanks to the generosity of their shoppers.

"We just put the tins there and they do the rest," she said.

The supermarket is currently raising money for a bus for Helping Hand's Halliday Street aged care facility.

The Lions Club's Liberty swing project is expected to be unveiled at the Mid North Education Centre later this year.
