You have heard about "fake news" - now what about "fake advertising"?

The thought arises after more than 40 bundles of advertising leaflets were dumped beside Aerodrome Road.

The total amount discarded would run to thousands of pages promoting businesses such as Harvey Norman, Stratco and Target.

Airport manager Steve Joyce said the dates on the leaflets had expired in May or June.

"It is disgusting, really," he said. "Someone didn't deliver them.

"Imagine if they were not tied up - they would have been all over the place.

"They were dumped last night by a car or ute that left a track beside the road.

"Port Pirie Regional Council will investigate the littering." He said he had found the waste about 8.30am last Thursday.

Nearby residents were angry about the littering.

Offenders who commit such brazen acts of illegal dumping face hefty fines under legislation enforced by local government.
