Kimberley Burnell, a boxer from Burnell's Boxing Gym has come home from a South Australia versus Queensland fight successful, beating an experienced opponent and winning boxer of the night.
Kim stepped into the ring for the first time earlier this year and at the weekend had her second fight. She says she had more nerves this time around but was able to quickly find her feet.
"When you are fighting someone you have no back record of, you can't really train for them because you don't know their weaknesses. You just go in there and hope for the best," she said.
Kim was shocked at receiving boxer of the night, but says she has been working hard.
Coach, Bob Burnell says her good feet and head movement proved successful and assisted her in the win.
Also fighting on the night were Leon Biddell and Codie Keefe who unfortunately did not bring home any wins, but gained much needed experience which will drive them into the future.
"It was a close and tough fight for Leon," Bob explained. "He didn't quite up the scratch for the night and just lost on a close decision there."
"Codie put his belt on the line and fought a lad who was a big puncher but we had trained for it. He approached the fight well, went into it hard and the other lad came out hard as well. Once he got going it was a great effort but left it too late," Bob Burnell added.
Their next tournament is in Mount Gambier in two weeks.
