Port Pirie Basketball Association's Donaldson Stadium will be boosted by support from the federal government.

Federal Liberal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey, announcing the funding on Tuesday with the organisation's president, Maciej Jankowski, said he was delighted to have secured $44,310 for the association to upgrade its facilities through the Community Sporting Infrastructure Grants (CSI) program.

"I am really pleased the government will invest this funding toward the upgrade of the facilities at the basketball club which will give local the sport a real boost and help increase sporting participation," he said.

"The funding will enable to repair of some structural damage to the building from water over years.

"The plan is to upgrade the area so it is safe for administration volunteers and storage of equipment.

"In rural towns, sport is a huge part of engaging with your local community and developing friends and support networks.

Mr Ramsey said the investment is part of the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program that is upgrading local facilities across Australia that will help drive increased participation in sports and physical activity.

"The federal government is supporting local grassroots sports because we recognise the wider health, social and community benefits that come from greater activity and participating in sport.

"It is a key priority of our government to promote the social and health benefits of physical activity and sport and our investment to upgrade facilities and infrastructure will provide a real encouragement for those local residents not currently active."
