Community Assistance Grants given out

Port Pirie Regional Council has awarded four Community Assistance Grants to groups.

The council gave $3500 to Cancer Council SA for the Port Pirie Relay for Life on March 30 and 31, $1331 to the Port Pirie Kennel Club for the all-breeds dog show at the Easter long weekend, $1700 to the Port Pirie Harness Racing Club for the cup event on March 23 and $600 to the Port Pirie District Tennis Association for the junior Hot Shots clinic last month.

The recipients accepted over-size cheques from Mayor Leon Stephens at a gathering before the latest council meeting.

All were grateful for the council's generosity.

During the meeting, councillors also voted to approve $3700 for the Savoy Soccer Club for its 70th anniversary celebration on July 6 and 7.

The Combined Churches of Crystal Brook Chaplaincy will receive in-kind assistance of $174 to hire the Crystal Brook Institute on March 23 and 24 for a fundraising concert.

Crystal Brook Netball Club will gain $414 in-kind assistance for hall hire for its Debutante Ball on April 5 and practice sessions.

Port Pirie Motor Cycle Club will also benefit while Royal Port Pirie Yacht Club's Queen of the Gulf Sailing Regatta is supported with an $800 grant.
