Medical imaging to turn private

SA Medical Imaging are currently consulting with staff and unions regarding the future of medical imaging in Port Pirie and Murray Bridge.

This is in response to the tender process, to ensure that their services deliver value to the taxpayer.

In a statement given to the Recorder, it has been explained that SA Medical Imaging are considering the option of a full service medical imaging model that would be delivered by a private provider, rather than the reporting and imaging being done separately.

"Reporting services at those sites is already provided privately, as is the case in another 14 sites across Country Health South Australia," a spokesperson for SA Medical Imaging said. The full service model would provide reporting, consultation, radio-graphics and staffing services. Opportunities for current staff will be explored.

"The proposed model would provide improved access to medical imaging diagnostics, particularly after hours, for Murray Bridge and Port Pirie."
