NEW SEASON LOOMS: Savoy, fresh from their grand final victory in 2018, are positively engaged in their pre-season with strong numbers doing the hard yards under club coach Vincent DeGioia.

Starting and waiting for the 2019 soccer season will be a teasing journey for last year’s winning team Savoy who by all reports are positively engaged in their pre-season with strong numbers doing the hard yards under club coach Vincent DeGioia.

The new Division 2 league season April kick-off seems an eternity, but once the Green and Whites begin their trial games with their opening piece of competitive soccer coming against St Peters at home things will change rather quickly.

And the unavailability of the spanking new sports precinct to Savoy in this pre-season is just around the corner with information acquired during the week suggesting that the Vincent DeGioia coached Green and Whites will be there at the super sports base probably in two week’s time and that Savoy will play all their trials there also.

It’s been a smooth transition for Savoy so far and the excitement of playing soccer at the modern and state-of-the-art sports venue in the city strongly remains one of the new season highlights for the Green and Whites.

It was a perfect and appropriate farewell last season with Savoy winning its final league game against Para Hills United and win the premiership at Savoy Park and the local amateur team will be looking at a smooth change in a city sports environment.

However, the Division 2 fixtures will be out late this month and into the higher division joining Savoy is Rowe Park (not Maiwand FC) and also Macedonia United, while the renowned Salisbury Florina has not registered its intention to SAASL as yet.

Meanwhile the makeup of this season’s league competition will see Savoy having to meet only two new teams that the locals have had little to do with in amateur soccer that being Noarlunga United and Seaford although the early fixtures draft is subject to changes at this early stage.

(Subject to change)

SAVOY, ROWE PARK, MACEDONIA UNITED, SOUTHERN KNIGHTS, NOARLUNGA UNITED, SEAFORD, MUNNO PARA, WEST BEACH, WA. RAPTORS, PARA HILLS EAST.

Nevertheless the opening trial against Division 1 Saturday team St Peters on the February 23 will outline Savoy’s pre-season and how well the players have trained before playing SBS in Adelaide the following week.

This time last season Savoy were preparing for trials also where they played three, winning 3-0 in Whyalla, lost 1-2 to Adelaide University and then also lost 2-5 to the strong Modbury Jets while the home trial against BOSA was cancelled due to heat.
