The Port Pirie Soccer Association annual ball was held at the town hall with a crowd of 500.

The queen entrants were Rita Amato (Savoy), Thelma Whiteford (soccer association), Marina Nikiforos (Hellenic Rovers), Ella Boath (Wanderers). Rita Amato was the winner.

Port Football Club held their wind-up in its new clubrooms.

Port Pirie High School success. Eight gained leaving certificates.

Bill Shepherd won the 62-mile Tour of the North bike race with Eric Bairstow finishing with the fastest time.

It was the end of horses working on Port Pirie's waterfront when a full system of merchandised handling was started.

In its heyday, the had 100 horses working on the wharf.

Pirie cycling was brought right into the spotlight at the floodlight meeting at Kilburn when four state championships were captured by two riders Clem Bairstow and Jim Mayes in the senior and junior events.

The Port Pirie Theatre Guild was formed when the Port Pirie Revue Company and the Port Pirie Dramatic Society merged.
