Course information for the first year of UniHub Spencer Gulf was unveiled at the Port Pirie Golf Course.
The open days on November 6 and 7 gave would-be students the opportunity to seek more information about the range of courses on offer at the ground-breaking Port Pirie campus.
Course information includes Bachelor of Psychological Science, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Education.
The courses are being offered thanks to partnerships with Central Queensland University and Flinders University.
“Students who come on board next year will be the early adopters of a new way to access tertiary education in the region,” said UniHub Spencer Gulf board chairwoman Dr Jen Cleary.
“Previously, the options for accessing tertiary education at a local level have been through distance education options where the student studies in isolation and, at best, interacts with other students through virtual means or residential schools, if they are offered.
“UniHub Spencer Gulf gives people the option to study locally and to interact and learn alongside other students.
“The hub gives them the space, the support and technology to study individually and in groups.”
Dr Cleary said the campus would cater for a range of students, from school leavers through to career-upgrade aspirants who wish to undertake post-graduate qualifications or choose new pathways. “Some students may be the first in their family to have the opportunity to study at a tertiary level,” she said.
“We expect there will be some students who were previously restricted due to family or work commitments.
“If people live regionally or face socio-economic challenges, it should never be a barrier to gaining an education.”
Professor Peter Munn, head of social work for CQUniversity, took part in the program.
