The first game of football at Port Pirie’s new Memorial Oval will be played between the Crows and Power as part of the JLT Community Series pre-season competition, and the teams have expressed their excitement to do so.
As announced on Monday, the showdown will be on Saturday March 2 at 3.40pm and play an integral part in both teams’ seasons preparations.
Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan and Port Adelaide’s CEO Keith Thomas shared the same excitement to be playing in the regional centre.
“As always, the pre-season fixture presents an exciting opportunity to engage with some of our regional supports who make up about 20 per cent of our membership base,” Fagan said.
“We are excited to be playing our South Australian rivals, the Adelaide Crows in Port Pirie as part of the JLT pre-season competition,” Thomas said.
Both teams have recognised that they have strong fan bases in the city and hope that they can put on a fierce contest on the day.
“We know we have many passionate supports in and around Port Pirie, so we are very much looking forward to the opportunity,” Thomas said.
The match will be televised nationally by Fox Sports.
A statement from the Port Pirie Regional Council stated their thanks for securing a game for the community in addition to the amazing opportunity ahead..
“This is an amazing opportunity to showcase what great facilities we now have with the new sports precinct, and hopefully be the start of many more major league sports being played here.”
Further information regarding tickets and details for the Port Pirie game and other JLT games across the country will be announced in the near future.
