RETAIL: Workers are applying the finishing touches to the ALDI supermarket, in Wandearah Road, Port Pirie.

The much-awaited new ALDI Port Pirie store will open in Wandearah Road, Port Pirie, on Wednesday, November 7.

A spokesman said that “while we do not plan an official opening event, we encourage local shoppers to come down on opening day to discover the difference ALDI can make to their wallets and lifestyles”.

“Once open, the new store will be supported by a team of 15 to 20 full and part-time workers, providing unique career opportunities in retail,” the spokesman said.

The six-month construction of the site has been managed by Mossop Constructions and Interiors.

The ALDI group represents two German discount supermarket chains with more than 10,000 stores in 20 countries and an estimated combined turnover of billions of dollars.

The group was founded by two brothers in 1946 when they took over their mother's store which dated back to 1913 in Essen.
