PATRICK Cumming is set to represent Port Pirie on the world stage following his selection for the Ultimate Fiji Cup.
He will pack his passport and join the South Australian Under 15 Regional Boys team taking part in the tournament at the start of December.
Patrick was congratulated on his acceptance in the squad by the Football Federation of South Australia in August.
The tournament is an important component of the Football Federation of South Australia’s Talented Player Pathway.
Patrick, who plays and trains with the Northern Demons, said he was excited for the opportunity and experience of playing soccer overseas.
The road to selection wasn’t easy and requires travel to Adelaide to take part in camps as well as plenty of training to keep honing his skills.
Patrick said the training to get ready for the international tournament was intense.
Speaking of his future ambitions, he is keen to be the best he can.
“I’d like to keep playing as long as I can,” he said.
Patrick thanked his coach Joseph Sciangalepore as well as his grandfather John Smith, currently Savoy Soccer Club’s Reserves coach, who Patrick said comes out to support him at soccer.
Port Pirie has previously had a good representation of players at the competition in what proves to be the trip of a lifetime for the city’s young soccer talent.
