Demons Reserves side out of finals race

It was not to be for the Northern Demons Reserves when it narrowly lost its second final last Saturday to Vipers FC and to an opposition club that also eliminated the Reds league team the previous week.

The Demons’ finals experience this season went for three weeks and three shorter of a collective six last season when the Reds Under 18 also played finals and as for the Reserves who finished in third spot last Saturday was toppled by the sixth ladder finisher.

But it had won its first final strongly and its second final against Vipers FC was always going to be a tossup affair due to the two teams’ season games, but unfortunately a result that went the wrong way for the Demons and generally ending the Red’s finals campaign for good.

Demons fail to take chances

The Northern Demons Reserves team failed to capitalize from a host of chances in their final against Vipers FC last Saturday afternoon at The Parks venue before an early minute second half goal gave Vipers a 1-0 lead and the upper hand that led to Reds exit from the finals series.

In the other Reserves final, Playford City defeated the Adelaide Hills 4-2 but was not enough with the Hills moving into the grand final and Playford into the preliminary against Vipers FC at the Hawk Nest at Woodside.

The Woodside venue will host three games starting with Under 18s then the Reserves followed by the league game between Adelaide Hills and Adelaide Victory under lights.

However, in last Saturday’s final at The Parks it was the Demons that played the better opening half in what was described by Reds coach John Louis Bellifemini as a tough game of soccer between the two well-matched combinations.

The Demons many set pieces of offensive play in the opening half came to nothing and probably let the Vipers off the hook to some extent even though the Adelaide team had the most possession in last Saturday’s final.

However it was a surprise but well headed 47th minute goal from a left cross that beat Red keeper Michael Roros and open the scoring to The Parks final, but a goal that would eventually decide the game to post the Vipers second win over the Demons this season.

After the goal the Northern Demons lost their way somewhat, but somehow never allowed the Vipers to score again and went to playout the final strongly and hit the crossbar at the 80th minute.

Daniel DeGiglio playing as a defensive midfielder was strong, Peter Capurso as an attacking midfielder played well but failed to score, while defender Jake Noble was good, and a right-wing back James Pisani continued to play good soccer to follow his latter season performances.

The Demons coach indicated that Reds could just simply not get the ball in the net whereas the Vipers got a chance and took it well before going onto protect that goal for the remainder of the game to win 1-0 and into its third straight final for the Theo Mylonas coached team after a sixth place finish to the season.
