NO SOCCER FOR LEADERS SAVOY

12.30 pm Sunday – JOHN PIRIE OVAL
There will be no senior soccer for Savoy again this week when the SAASL Challenge Cup enters the round of sixteen, and with the Green and Whites league team having been eliminated in the previous cup tie by Elizabeth Downs and where an extended break is probably unnecessary for the Vincent DeGioia coached local amateurs.
However, the Savoy Reserves will be in action and did get a dream draw when it takes on Tea Tree Gully at their temporary home venue at the John Pirie Secondary School this Sunday at a 12.30 timeslot where two weeks ago the Green and Whites drew 1-1 with SBS before the league team won 2-0.
But the Savoy seniors do get valuable time and a decent spell where a few players that have injury niggles can utilize the lengthy fortnight rest and get ready to continue its current winning soccer performances that has the Main Road club in top position on the SAASL Division 3 league ladder.
The Savoy Reserves host higher division opponents Tea Tree Gully City at the John Pirie Secondary School in what is expected to be a hard contest for the John Smith coached Green and Whites who have played the Adelaide visitors before.
Last season in Division 2 company Savoy played Gully City on two occasions in normal fixtures and the opening round one result saw a one sided affair with Savoy losing 1-8 away before the locals turned the tables on the Adelaide team later in round 10 winning 3-1 after leading 2-0 at halftime in what was a strong responding effort by the Savoy Park reserves at home.
Savoy as normal will play a young team and be involved in cup soccer and the only game in operation for the locals on the weekend where a win will be rewarding for the for the home team, however the visitors will be hard to beat.
Meanwhile it will be until the following Sunday that the league season resumes and Savoy will be at the Paddocks in Adelaide to play fifth-placed Para Hills United that have won three and drawn two and are seven points in arrears of the Green and Whites.
