Savoy goes into its final pre-season trial this Saturday afternoon when it hosts 1st Division opponent BOSA at Savoy Park where coach Vincent Degioia would like to play his strongest team of this trial campaign to date, but reports indicate he will probably be unable to due to different pre-planned commitments.
The Dino and Anthony Mennillo coached BOSA will provide the Green and Whites with very stiff opposition as expected from one of the best and successful amateur teams going around
There will be Reserves and League games played at Savoy Park where the locals finally get to play on home territory after playing in Whyalla and two games in Adelaide.
The DeGioia-coached Savoy outfit has not fielded consistent nor settled teams in the past three trial games and DeGioia describes his charges one that loses possession and then cannot recover quickly and subsequently gets punished.
There’s no doubt Savoy found a very tough Modbury Jets team in their last trial when losing 2-5 in Adelaide two weeks ago, and this Saturday BOSA will most likely surpass the calibre of opposition.
Meanwhile Savoy have played BOSA several times in trial games since playing Amateur League soccer in Adelaide, but several seasons ago Savoy lost 0-4 in a Challenge Cup round.
Nevertheless, this Saturday’s final trial for the Green and Whites looms as another game that Savoy is expected to struggle against the better settled Adelaide outfit.
And until Savoy can play its best players more consistently in their soccer, whether away or at home, and become a better settled unit the locals will find things difficult especially with the real soccer season three weeks away and Savoy being idle for nearly three weeks after Saturday’s game.
However, only some encouraging signs in Saturday’s home trial game against the Adelaide visitors will give coach Vincent DeGioia some confidence before Savoy’s next game when it plays a preliminary Challenge Cup tie.
