EXCITEMENT was in the air at the Savoy Soccer Club on Friday night as news broke that the club was set to receive significant funding. An elated John Caputo, the club’s chairperson, told members and supporters that the club was to receive $70,000 from the state government.

The ‘gift’ to Port Pirie’s oldest soccer club came courtesy of Member for Frome, and Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Geoff Brock.

Mr Caputo said Mr Brock had been a long-time supporter of the club. He thanked him for his continued lobbying.

Mr Brock said the announcement came about after talks were held with the club. He praised the club for its friendliness and told the gathering that Port Pirie was the best community in the world

The funding is set to be put towards roofing upgrades which will enable the club to place solar panels on top of its Main Road clubroom.

Mr Brock said $814,000 in grants had been provided for various groups in the electorate in the last three months.
