Port Pirie Regional Council chief executive officer Andrew Johnson has praised the anti-litter advertising campaigns for the cleaner Pirie beachfront.

The campaign, titled There’s Nothing Cool about Littering, created by MAV Media and Heidrich Films has been running since 2012 and has transformed the public’s view of the area.

Dr Johnson says that he has seen big changes since the campaign began.

“There has been a slight drop in the amount of money spent to clean up litter near the boat ramp,” he said. “There also is more use of bins.

“Probably the biggest change is the number of complaints that we used to have about the area. They are now non-existent.”

Dr Johnson says that the television, print and radio campaign has helped change the area.

“The advertising campaign has helped with the decrease of litter,” he said. “It reminds them to take pride in the area.”
