The state government has launched a $40 million Fund My Neighbourhood program during the next two financial years.
Independent Frome MP Geoff Brock said the program would let people vote for projects that improve their streets, suburbs and towns.
Individuals sponsored by an organisation such as a sport club, charity, school, community group or non-government organisation can submit ideas that improve their neighbourhood and bring their communities together.
The nominated idea can be valued from $10,000 to $150,000. If an individual’s idea is on local government or state government-owned or managed-lands, the Fund My Neighbourhood team will check with the relevant councils and agencies. After verification, people can then vote for eligible projects.
“Projects can be diverse, anything from a community hall or neighbourhood centre upgrade, pedestrian crossing or lighting, a community garden, beautification of parks and playground, community artwork or initiatives designed to strengthen community cohesion,” Mr Brock said.
“I encourage everyone to think about what could benefit their neighbourhood and come up with your own ideas.”
