Wraps off $20m Upper Spencer Gulf package.

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey is encouraging local businesses in the Upper Spencer Gulf region to think about ways to access the Federal Government’s $20 million Regional Jobs and Investment Package.

This comes after the release of the guidelines for the package on Friday.

“I announced this program last year and it is exciting to now get closer to the point of delivery - it is a great opportunity for business operations to expand and create new jobs and for new and innovative businesses to take the opportunity to establish in the region,” Mr Ramsey said.

“Economically, we have endured some tough times in the Upper Spencer Gulf which is why I sought the package in the first place.

“The guidelines published online have been the result of a local committee led by Claire Wiseman from Regional Development Australia Far North and I thank them for their diligence over the last few months in compiling these guidelines - certainly it has taken some considerable personal commitment from the group.”

He said the committee had “zeroed in” on the best opportunities to grow the economic pie of the region.

“The recent positive news for the Whyalla steelworks will now mean there are a number of businesses that will be even keener to access government support to expand their operations and pick up extra workers,” he said.

“I expect some very good proposals to come forward.”

Applications will open mid-August and a series of workshops will be held around that time to help potential investors with the process. For more details: https://www.business.gov.au/Assistance/Regional-Jobs-and-InvestmentPackages/Upper-Spencer-Gulf-South-Australia
