Strip presentation a significant milestone for John Pirie Soccer Excellence Academy

Bright smiles shot around the room as young John Pirie Secondary School Soccer Excellence Academy athletes received their official strips from special supporters of the program recently.

And the strips were just the start of a great month for the academy which has taken significant steps forward in the space of only three months.

After receiving their official playing strips, the academy’s five-a-side girls team took out second place in division two of the Northern Zone Carnival held at Salisbury East High School.

During the presentation of the strips, academy coordinator and JPSS teacher Ben Howard, praised the athletes for their dedication to their soccer both on and off the pitch.

He also thanked the sponsors of the program for their support, saying that without their support the academy would not have gone ahead.

Athletes received their outfits from representatives of academy sponsors Intersport, Magic 105.9FM and Midstate Hardware, with Independent Member for Frome Geoff Brock an apology due to parliamentary commitments in Adelaide.

The mixed academy sees students who excel both in the classroom and on the pitch put through a number of detailed number of soccer related lessons.

Learning to coach and referee are both focuses of the course in addition to working on physical, mental and conditioning techniques related to soccer.
