Port Pirie businesses and shoppers are working together in a show of resilience and community spirit as the Central Business District Rejuvenation continues.
The I Heart Port Pirie CBD Competition, created by Port Pirie Regional Council, has reached the halfway mark and is proving to be a great success, according to a council spokeswoman.
The competition was created to promote and support the businesses in Florence and Alexander Streets affected by the rejuvenation works and is averaging more than 1000 entries weekly.
Shoppers simply need to spend $10 or more at any of the participating businesses and fill in an entry form to enter the weekly prize draws. There are five weekly draws of a $500 shopping spree before all entries go back into the draw for the major prize, a $1000 shopping spree. The major prize will be drawn on Monday, June 5.
Council thanked the businesses for embracing the spirit of the competition and the community for showing their Port Pirie pride by supporting the city-centre.
The competition has drawn widespread support with shoppers from Port Hughes, Wallaroo, Wirrabara and Gladstone among those entering the competition.
Alexander Street has re-opened to traffic amid a buzz of excitement which is just a glimpse of the enthusiasm that will be generated when stage one of the rejuvenation is finished next month.
