“The mud came down the hill and was about 60 centimetres deep. There are about eight residents in York Road and about 14 houses. They could not leave to go to medical appointments or to their jobs,” Mr Kennedy said.

“I got through in my car which is a V8 after going back 20 metres and flooring it through the mud. I nearly lost it while fishtailing along. I had to get to work in Port Pirie.

“I wrote to the Mount Remarkable District Council about the problem almost a year ago to the day. It is not acceptable.”

The council’s chief executive officer was unavailable for comment.

Residents said council workers were at the site on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a boat ramp development is going ahead at the island. Plans include a pontoon and concrete platforms.
