Savoy season start nears

AMATEUR SEASON NEARS: Coach Matt Black is again ready to lead the Savoy Soccer Club during the 2017 season.

AMATEUR SEASON NEARS: Coach Matt Black is again ready to lead the Savoy Soccer Club during the 2017 season.

The Matt Black-coached Savoy team will engage in its final interclub trial after being forced to play an internal one last weekend when Adelaide Titans called off a pre-planned appointment to play at Savoy Park.

Savoy defeated Adelaide Cobras 3-1 before playing a 3-3 draw with USC Lion, both opponents rated as strong Division teams. The green-and-whites will travel to Adelaide to play Munno Para this Sunday afternoon with both Savoy teams playing. Savoy get a welcome early Challenge Cup bye this coming weekend before returning to Adelaide for its opening Division 2 kickoff round 1 game against Tea Tree Gully City on April 2 at Elizabeth Downs. Reports from Savoy Park suggest that coach Matt Black will have a full squad to pick from by for the Gully City game where winning away will be ideal for the local Amateur green-and-whites combination. It is expected that both coach Matt Black and Vincent DeGioia will have a well prepared team for the season start, and apart from last week’s hiccup of having a third trial cancelled the vibes from Savoy Park are good.
