The Country Fire Service (CFS) is encouraging people in the Beetaloo Valley, near Laura, to follow their bushfire survival plans or evacuate the area.

The uncontrolled grass fire broke out in the Southern Flinders Ranges area on Thursday afternoon, and is currently travelling in a north north-easterly direction toward Palmer Road.

CFS said the fire may threaten the safety of those in the area, said those without survival plans should leave now. Residents are urged to leave only if the path is clear to a safer place.

Others are urged not to enter the area as roads may not be safe.

For more information check the CFS website or call the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1300 362 361.
