Junior players in the Risdon Hockey club are now playing safer thanks to $2000 from the Active Club Grants.
The Risdon committee decided that face masks were of paramount importance for their juniors.
Risdon junior co-ordinator Lyn Marwick said the committee pushed to ensure that their juniors could play safely and be protected from wayward balls in what is known as a “short corner” in hockey.
“It was great to see our kids progressing in a safe manner that hopefully one day they could play in the Olympics like the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos are doing in London,” Marwick said.
The Risdon committee was keen to do whatever can be done to ensure that its juniors could reach their potential, she said.
