Tennis season almost finished

09 Feb, 2012 09:05 AM
The 2011/12 tennis season is coming to an end and there is little time left for teams to secure a spot in the finals.

Tomorrow night’s matches feature some very important games, in particular the B grade match between Wandearah and Trinity to be played at the Wandearah courts.

A win to Trinity will keep its finals chances alive, and could even mean replacing Wandearah in the top four in the weeks ahead.

Wandearah will be desperate to hang onto its fourth spot and cement a finals position.

Trinity has arguably the youngest ever team in the history of the B grade competition with nearly all of its eight regular players being under 18 years of age.

The side consists mainly of Ethan Rucioch, Jacob Cappelletto, Mitchell Buchanan and Blake Stringer in the men and Chloe Buchanan, Samantha Norton, Courtney Oehms and Danielle Wright.

Trinity is currently on 74 points, keeping in mind teams are allocated four premiership points for a winning match, and one point for each rubber won, while Wandearah is not too far ahead on 82 points.

The A grade matches tomorrow night will see Trinity (1) v Railway Pennant (2) and Napperby (3) v Risdon Uniting (4).

The up-to-date premiership ladder has Trinity on top with 9.5 average points, while Railway is very close behind in second position on 9.3 av. pts, with Napperby third on 8.6, Risdon Uniting fourth on 8.10 and Wandearah fifth with 6.6.

Trinity had a strong team against Wandearah last week and if they front up with the same eight players will be a tough ask for Railway to win.

Alyse Palmer will play the next two weeks for Railway Pennant then move back to the United Kingdom and unfortunately for the team will miss out on playing in the finals.

A highlight of this match could well be the men’s single between Greg Phillips and Adam Olsen if both players are available on the night.
