More than 400 swimmers will converge on Port Pirie this week as the city’s swimming club hosts the sport’s most important event outside of the metropolitan area.
The BHP Billiton 2012 SwimmingSA County Championships run from today, Thursday, through until Sunday.
Today Superfish events are being held – giving swimmers aged 13 years and under who have not yet achieved a country championship stand time the opportunity to still match themselves against others from throughout the State and Broken Hill.
The 53rd championships proper will get underway on Friday.
In all, 411 competitors from 22 clubs have successfully nominated 2431 entries.
Swimmers will range in age from five to 51-years-of-age.

Among the up and coming athletes to watch out for from the host club are Alex Brock (freestyle and butterfly); Alice Meyer (butterfly); Danielle White (breaststroke); Chelsea-Rose Meyer (butterfly); Paige Court; Annalize Vanables and Nakeisha Nickels.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the events as spectators, at a cost of $7 per session, with morning afternoon and evening sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A mayoral reception will be held at the pool this afternoon at 2pm.
The first Superfish event will be held at 4pm today.
