Ports and Central get ready for Friday night clash

26 Aug, 2010 03:18 PM
The netball clash tomorrow night sees Centrals coming off a very good win against St Mark’s.

After being down by eight goals at quarter time they had a twenty goal turn around in the next three quarters for a comfortable 12 goal win.

This weeks game is a repeat of last year’s preliminary final with a difference no injuries this time and a confident team on the court.

The defensive unit of Lisa Brock and Mel Harmer have really gelled this year into close knit duo with a great understanding of each others position on the court.

Harmer has increased her rebound and intercepts tally this season with her growing confidence and is a much underrated player.

Brock is still one of the great defenders in the competition and any player knowe they are in for a tough night when they lineup against her.

Brock’s quickness, clean hands, vertical leap and never say die attitude make her a formidable opponent.

Ann Russack completes the back court and her willingness to do anything she can do for the team is what every side needs.

Whether it be, backing up down the court to supply another option, cutting her opponent out of the game, encouraging her team mates and always believing the team can win.

In the centre court Jessie Webb will run till she drops, she will work to ensure that the ball is transferred from defence to attack as quickly as possible.

Her work assisting the defensive players to her work around the attacking circle will be instrumental for her side.

Abby Zubrinich will also run all night to feed the ball into the goalies and then work on her defence back down the court.

Abby has a unique understanding with the goalies and her passing into them is exciting to watch.

Emily Zubrinich has the versatility to play anywhere from WD to WA and her adaptability is a vital component of the side.

She also has a talent for getting the ball into the goalies, waiting for the right moment before passing off.

The offensive unit of Stephanie Anastasiou and Tegan Pine have had opposition players wondering where they are all season.

Anastasiou with her pace, evasive skills and shooting well under pressure has increased her stature in Pirie netball this season, no sign of any second year nerves here.

Pine with her cool calm exterior belies her acute sense of knowing where to be and where Anastasiou is at the same time.

Her passing in the goal circle this year has been first class and as always her shooting can be relied upon by the rest of her team.

Centrals go into this game injury free, confident and with no fear and are aiming for a win so they can play in the Grand Final next week.
