It was lawn bowl champion Bev Blackwell who was the toast of the ladies lawn bowls at the Port Pirie Bowling Club, following her win of the Ladies Handicap Single finals.
Considering herself fortunate enough to have claimed the win despite receiving a game-handicap of four, Mrs Blackwell said her opponent Raelene Yates was good competition.
and congratulated her on her own success in what was her first season of bowls for the club.
“I still managed to win by two shots but Raelene made me work for it,” Mrs Blackwell said.
“Raelene can be congratulated for her success too in what was her first season of lawn bowls,” she said.
Playing for the men in Gladstone at the weekend did not phase Mrs Blackwell, who said the favor was returned by the men who were sometimes required to fill in for them during the week and who still had plenty in reserve to claim the final.
While the match may have signalled the end of competition, the lawn bowls season is not over just yet.
There are Penant Finals to play and then the highly anticipated State Masters Games, before a Regional Lawn Bowls Carnival and the club’s annual closing event- Dot Rodda Day, in memory of the-late Dorothy Rodda.
Mrs Blackwell was pleased with her efforts and said she is looking forward to the upcoming events.
