Things don’t get any easier for the Cats

12 Jun, 2008 12:17 PM
The season for winless Solomontown does not get any easier as they travel to Port Augusta to take on Central Augusta on Saturday.

Coming off a succession of heavy defeats prior to the long weekend break, the Cats will need to be well prepared for what lies ahead or they will come away from the road trip with more of the same.

Central Augusta’s three wins have come against South Augusta (twice) and Lions, while they too have struggled against the power teams of Port and West Augusta.

Sollies will need to find someone else capable of kicking goals and not rely on Damien Foster as it has been doing in recent matches.

Their other weaknesses lie in their lack of toughness to win the hard ball and their inability to control the clearances from the centre bounces. Once the players understand the difference in being hard at the ball and being physical, the attacking side of their team game will develop.

Central Augusta has strong goal kicking forwards in Archibald and Ruffles and Sollies key defenders, Bateson and Scollin will need to be on their game to keep the bloods to a small total.

The Cats were well served last game by Adams, Turner and Abella and along with Allan Margatich will need to continue their good form to have any chance of recording a victory.

Some of Sollies youngsters have their moments but drift out of the game too easy but the consistency will come as they experience more game time at the senior level.

It is hard to tip against Centrals but with the weeks break giving Solomontown a chance to regroup, an upset victory to the Cats is not out of the question.
