The Port Pirie Basketball Association’s vice-president says the city’s proposed multi-purpose arena will not make his group abandon Donaldson Stadium.
Mick Saler, on behalf of the association, says that he agrees with the proposal “in principle,” but is not prepared to move Port Pirie basketball to a new home. “We will look at being involved with the new stadium, but only in a small way,” he said.
“Most of our members agree that the local competition will remain at Donaldson Stadium.” According to Mr Saler, the association’s only involvement with the proposed stadium will be for major events, such as the association’s grand finals, carnivals and exhibition matches from higher-level teams.
“Donaldson Stadium generates our income, it has always served us well and we have a long tradition there,” Mr Saler said.
“There is not a chance that we will move out.”
