Northern Demons who dropped valuable home points last week are tipped to hit new team The Cove hard on Saturday in the round 10 State League game at Hallet Cove.
The Grant Sweeney coached Cove who surprisingly sit behind last week’s Byrne Park winners Playford City on the ladder have probably their home venue in its favor when it hosts third placed Demons.
However the Hallet Cove based team have not been pushovers in the last month with a narrow 0-1 loss to
West Adelaide and Noarlunga, a 2-4 defeat by top team Enfield City before early season wins over Port Pirie City and Gawler.
And the Anthony Brevi combination will need to play better on Saturday than last week or else this former amateur outfit could well get wins at the full expense of both local teams in State League.
The Demons will be without the suspended and dangerous Sam Salvemini and is also doubtful of a fully fit line-up against the Cove.
Described to have conceded simple first half goals against Playford at Byrne Park one suspects the Demons would have regrouped during the week and will be out make amends against the 7th placed team.
The Cove by all means has shown steady improvement playing the higher league standard of soccer where reports indicate that apart from its attack has developed into a tough outfit that is still getting a feel of FFSA soccer.
Nevertheless the Demons who before losing to Playford City had won three consecutive games will be more accomplished and the Reds do have key players that will punish an opponent.
Reds skipper Adrian Leet will return on Saturday, while Adam Giancaspro could be included if he proves his fitness late in the week.
But some tough selection issues face Brevi as to who he will omit after some ordinary performances by some players in last weeks loss.
Saturday’s inclusion of Leet, and some better midfield distribution to the forwards will keep the Cove defence busy, and even though Salvemini is out, the likes of John Motley and Mick Edwards will trouble the home team.
Cove goalkeeper Peter Yates is in good touch as is captain Ben Simpson and central defender Matt Prodanivski, while midfielder Chris Rodrigues and Simon Kestell keep the ball moving out of the middle.
However with the Northern Demons tipped to win this game it will probably have to ignore its last away game when it was upset by Noarlunga in a similar environment and the likelihood of a heavy ground to
contend with also on Saturday.
