This week the SGL reaches the half-way mark of the season at round nine and Solomontown and Port meet on Sunday in another local SGL showdown for the third time this year.
The first two clashes resulted in the Bulldogs recording very comfortable wins and they are sitting six points clear at the top of the ladder, with the Cats yet to register a victory.
The last time the two teams met, Port won by 73 points and their pace was a real worry for Sollies.
Port were pushed by Lions for the majority of last week’s game while Sollies again struggled at Port Augusta and were soundly beaten by Central Augusta.
Sollies better players last Saturday had the same ring to them as previous weeks which shows the small number of players committing to the task. A huge lift by every player is needed if they are to trouble the Bulldogs in round nine this weekend.
Port could be strengthened by the return of several key players who were missing last week. Andrew Fleming, Brodie Mudge, Norm Wombat and Jack Clarke will add experience and class to an already formidable lineup.
Sollies should have Damien Foster available after missing last week due to other commitments.
The defenders for Sollies will be up against in-form goal kicking forwards in Treloar (12 goals in his past two matches), Phillipps and Sykes and possibly Mudge and Wombat should they return.
Solly defenders will need to get help from the midfielders to stem the supply to these players to restrict Port to a beatable score.
Allan Margatich will need to continue his good form in the ruck and an improved showing from key experienced players in Davies, Scollin, Turner and Adams will be needed for Sollies to have a chance of upsetting their more fancied opponent.
Port should be too strong and continue their unbeaten run.
