Solomontown faces another difficult assignment this Saturday at Memorial Oval when they front up against the inform Central Augusta outfit. The Cats need to regroup after being soundly beaten by South Augusta in round 4 while Centrals will be feeling extremely confident after their 4 point victory over last year’s premiers.
Central Augusta are sitting fourth on the ladder with 2 wins from 3 games while the Cats are languishing on the bottom with no points and minimal percentage to show from their 3 matches.
A couple of Solomontown’s younger players found some form last week and they will need to put in at least the same effort against Centrals. Lindsay Bearman covered a lot of ground and picked up numerous possessions against South and his effort was to be commended, while James Moyse was a shining light across half back.
Craig Tee had his moments and he will need to get the upper hand on Central’s Peter Jackson to allow Solomontown’s runners to get first use of the ball. Tee’s around the ground play is his biggest asset and he will need to be at his best for Solomontown to have any chance.
Experienced players like Matt Turner, Graham Cooke, Jarrad Davies and Brendan Nicklaus need to provide leadership on the field for the young players to follow.
Central Augusta has players in form and this showed in their victory over Port last week. Robert Clay-Waye was classy, while Ashley Grantham, Anthony McKenzie and Chad McKnight work extremely hard for every possession. Captain, Mark Fuller has been their most consistent player so far this season and his leadership qualities are one reason the Bloods are only percentage off top spot.
It is difficult to see anything other than a victory to Centrals, unless Solomontown players come in the right frame of mind from the opening bounce.
